Living an Ergonomic Lifestyle

I have previously explained how applying ergonomic standards has helped me with the pains human beings get in time. Those pains mostly appear around the shoulders, the back, the wrists, the fingers and the hips… In short, on every part that is put under pressure in our daily lives. If you want to know more about how you can let ergonomics change your existence, you have knocked to the right door: I am about to present other ways to meet an ergonomic lifestyle.

What else is it possible to change to live more ergonomically?

Ergonomic Bathtubs

Let’s start with ergonomic bathtubs. Ergonomic bathtubs will make a big difference (for an average citizen who washes regularly that is), especially if you buy one of the best ergonomic bathtubs that are actually shaped for your body and allow you to relax to the fullest while taking a bath. Buying a good quality bathtub is a must so why not spend that little extra time and attention on a bathtub for maximum comfort – I mean we use the bathtub for comfort and relaxation don’t we? Not to mention ergonomic bathtubs can handle two people, which would be an interesting combination for couples.

Now on a little less glamorous grounds, ergonomic bathtubs (if they’re designed right, specifically for that purpose) will help you take care of the elderly, which can be quite difficult as time goes by. You can shift, lower, higher up the bathtub to ensure your aged loved one is being provided the best possible care and comfort.

Ergonomic bathtubs don’t even forget our little ones: there are specific ones for children, with an anti-slip protection, a toy to keep them entertained and a curved back to make their bathing experience as enjoyable as it can get. You might be surprised when you learn how many people fell in love with a hotel… thanks to its ergonomic bathtubs. If you’re skeptical, they are worth a look as they aren’t that much more expensive for what you get, they are pretty amazing…

Ergonomic Car Seats

But there also are other ergonomically designed products in which we can improve our posture and, as you may have guessed, I’m talking about some means of transport we are very fond of in the States: cars.

Ergonomic-Car-Seats

You don’t have to spend a fortune like this to upgrade your car to be ergonomically friendly. Simple ergonomic car seat covers, ergonomic cushions, supports and pillows are great.

So how can we improve our posture whilst driving? You have to make sure the car seat is adapted to your body and if possible buy one designed especially for you. I don’t mean going out and buying new car seats for your car that are ergonomically designed (as that would cost an absolute fortune), what you do is buy ergonomic car seat covers and cushions that support your back whilst driving. These ergonomic car seats, ergonomic car cushions and pads are ergonomically designed to allow for the natural curvature of your spine.

That way you can let your tense parts take a break, even when you are stuck in traffic during a trip between far-away states. You also have to check if there is enough space for your legs: if there isn’t, you’re bound to say hello to hips’ and back problems.

We use cars very often and so we know: you have to move around in order to keep your abilities behind the wheel. Why? Staying put in a metallic vehicle day or (and) night for hours has rarely done any good. A car seat’s angle is different from the one at home or in the office (unless your car is your office of course) and goes from 100 to 110 degree angle (against 135 degrees in the house). Last but not least, and sorry to ruin your potential “I’m so bad” act, you have to hold the wheel the old (maybe boring, safer and comfier though) way: both of your hands on opposite extremities of the wheel, around the middle of it.

Ergonomic Massage Chairs and Ergonomic Lounges

If you’d like to extend your journey in ergonomics a little further, apart from investing in an ergonomic office chair, a massaging chair and ergonomic chair covers can be a great solution for you as well. Hey – when I started looking at ergonomic massaging chair, I thought they would literally cost the earth, but they are not that expensive!! What!? Yes – they can be the same price (or cheaper) than an ergonomic chair.

When it comes to ergonomic chairs – there is plenty of options available including ergonomic recliners, ergonomic sofas, ergonomic lounges and ergonomic massage chairs

So what is an ergonomic massaging chair exactly? It is simply an ergonomic office chair or ergonomic desk chair that is fitted with full massaging devices (including remote) and fully padded. Of if you want to get something a little extra and don’t want it for the office, you can get an ergonomic massaging recliner lounge, ergonomic sofa or just a ergonomic lounge chair.

Particularly the ergonomic chair covers, that you can take with you and install on almost every type of seat. Massaging chair covers are sold with remote controls, so you can direct the speed and the spots to be taken care of.

If your passion concerns gardening, there are helpful products to put to use, such as ergonomic kneelers, ergonomic arm supports, leaf collectors, different types of watering devices, shovels, little tractor scooters (my wife’s personal favorite for a while now)… All of those tools will help you attend to your garden without having to break your knee or spinal cord over it.

Who said that working with soil is tough again? They haven’t taken up on ergonomics, that’s all.

Learn More about Ergonomics

All in all, major changes are provided by ergonomic tools and ergonomic furniture, but you have to give yourself a hand as well, in that “if you don’t take care of yourself who else will?” logic. If you insist on resembling Quasimodo every time you sit down even the best possible furniture can’t help you out: you have remember the approximate angles and stick to them. They may seem “unnatural” at first… Don’t be fooled though, if something is “unnatural”, it definitely is the way we damage our members while we can prevent it. A few ways to do so are now in your hands, it’s your time to shine!

James is my name and I am the 'ergonomics guru'. As I've written on my About Page, for years previous to now, I endured body pains of all sorts; shoulder pain, headaches, neck pain and back pain. I've transitioned my life (and my family's) from a non-ergonomic to ergonomic lifestyle. It's relatively easy if you have the right information. Hopefully this site will answer all the questions and provide all the information you need to live an ergonomic lifestyle too.
